Moving things around

Anything you are still planning can be moved. Queued posts cannot, because a post's place in the feed is its time, and the calendar is where that changes.

Dragging

Pick a tile up and drop it where you want it. Where on the next tile you let go decides what happens, and the tile says so before you do: the edges are the gaps between tiles, and a bar appears there. Drop and the tile moves into that gap. The middle is the tile itself, and it lights up and names what the drop will do. Hold near the top or bottom of the window and the page scrolls.

Dropping onto a tile

You dropOntoWhat happens
A photo or videoAnother photo or videoReplace. Yours takes the slot, and the one it covered leaves the plan (it stays in Projects). The slot keeps its caption and whether it is hidden
A photo or video, holding ⌥ (Alt on Windows)Another photo or videoMake a carousel. The tile you dropped on is the first slide, yours the second
A photo, video or severalA carouselAdd as slides, on the end, in grid order. A page already in it is not added twice
A carouselA carouselMerge into one album, the target's slides first
AnythingAn empty slotDrop in. The blank gives way, so a gap fills without shifting the grid
A photo or videoA noteFill the idea. The note's words become the caption

Every one of them says what it did in a toast at the bottom, with Undo beside it, and ⌘Z undoes it as well. Instagram posts ten slides at a time, so a carousel never grows past ten: a drop that would make fifteen fills the album to ten and puts the other five in a new carousel right after it, in the blank slot there if you left one. The tile says so before you drop (“Makes a 10 and a 5”), and one Undo takes back both.

Nudging

Select exactly one tile and use the arrow keys. Left and right move it one slot; up and down move it a whole row, however many columns you are looking at.

←Back one slot
→Forward one slot
↑Up one row
↓Down one row

Swapping

Select exactly two tiles and press Swap. They exchange places and nothing else moves, which is what you want when two photos are in each other's slots. On the phone, the bar says Tap a second tile to swap while one is chosen.

Without a mouse

Everything a drop does has a key. Choose tiles by clicking or with the keyboard, and the numbers on them say what happens next.

RTwo chosen: tile 1 replaces tile 2 (or fills it, when 2 is a blank or a note)
MTwo or more chosen: one carousel, slides in the order you chose them, in the first one's slot. Past ten, the rest become the next carousel along

Undo

Every rearrangement can be undone, fifty steps back. The undo and redo buttons float at the bottom of the grid, and they are on the usual keys.

⇧⌘ZRedo
