Making a collage

A collage puts two to six of your photos in one frame, for a post, a story or a reel cover. Pick them, choose a layout, frame each one, and Save collage: it lands in Projects like any upload, ready to post.

  1. 1Pick the photosOn the web, select two or more in Projects (the box in a tile's corner, or ⌘-click) and press Make a collage, or open Upload → Collage and choose them there. On the phone, select them in Studio's grid and tap Collage. The order you picked them in is the order they fill the frame.
  2. 2Choose a layout, a shape, a background and the spacingEvery choice redraws the collage at once. The table below says what each is for.
  3. 3Frame each photoDrag a photo to move it in its cell; zoom it up to three times with ⌘-scroll or a pinch on a trackpad, or the Zoom slider once it is chosen. Double-click puts it back. On the phone: pinch, drag, double-tap.
  4. 4Swap twoHold a photo, then drag it onto another. The two trade places, each keeping its framing, and the drop is shown before you let go. On the phone: touch and hold, then drag.
  5. 5Save collageIt is drawn at full size and added to Projects, into the folder that is open if one is. On the web, Start a post with it opens the composer with the collage already attached.
OptionChoicesWhat it is for
Layout1 col, 2 col, 3 colHow many photos sit side by side. A short last row stretches to the full width, so five photos in 3 col are rows of three and two, never a gap.
Shape4:5, 1:1, 9:164:5 fills a feed, 1:1 is a square, 9:16 is a story or a reel cover.
BackgroundWhite, Fiber, Cream, Black, Charcoal, Blush, SageThe paper behind and between the photos: the photo booth's seven, so a strip and a collage look like one set. Fiber is the warm white of a black-and-white print.
SpacingPadded, Full bleedPadded leaves an even border of the background around and between the photos. Full bleed runs them edge to edge.

A JPEG, saved exactly as drawn: the web and the phone write the same file for the same choices. It counts toward your monthly uploads like any file you add.

When a photo does not open

WhatWhat happens
Fewer than two photosThe editor asks for more with Choose photos or Add photos, and Save collage waits until there are two.
A file only on your phoneLeft out, and the editor says so. Ask my phone on its tile sends it; then add it with Add photos.
A videoIts still goes in, as on the phone. A video with no still yet is left out.
A very large photoOpened at 2,048 pixels on its long edge, which is as large as a collage uses, while its cell says it is opening a large photo. Nothing is refused for its size.
A photo that will not openIts cell says why, with Try again and Leave it out. Save waits until every photo has opened or been left out.
Save does not reach your libraryThe collage stays as it is, with the reason, Try again, and Download it instead, so the work is never lost.
